I know I’ve covered this sort of thing before, but it’s always good to have as many tutorials as possible on a subject. In this case, Gary Sims from MakeTechEasier has written a tutorial on configuring your wifi adapter to be an access point. Particularly useful for robotics projects where you want a direct connection to your Pi without going through a router first.

I’ve done this and it is actually quite useful, especially if you do dual-wifi and set up forwarding, dns caching (and maybe proxy caching like squid), and privoxy. If you have a wifi locally wiht a “bounce page”, you don’t need to do each device because the PI’s wifi MAC will be the one authorized. So I have the PiAP, but then I can go pi to ether or pi to internet wifi, and privoxy will do the adblocking for my tablet and phone.
