After a short delay, the Foundation has just announced that they’re now selling 8GB SD cards with NOOBS installed on their Swag store. And the best news is they only cost £4 + postage (which is £1 if you’re not buying anything else). Great news and great value. It is a class 4 SD card but is one of the better makes (Samsung) which means it’s better than many budget class 6 or class 10 cards. As evidenced by the picture, it’s actually a microSD card inside an adapter.

Very interesting its MicroSD.
Looks like a good price, no spec though 🙁
They’ve since updated their blog post on the main site. It’s a very fast Class 4 apparently.
Class 4, ewww…
I prefer micro SD with an adaptor because you can choose to use a different micro SD adaptor on the Pi for a more compact footprint (or not).
I seem to remember Gordon saying that full size SD is on the way out (in general, not specifically w.r.t. Pi).
I do as well, Alex. I have to say, though, I’ve had trouble with the Adafruit microSD adapter. Because it’s quite thick it tends to squash the pins meaning that when you swap to a normal SD card you have problems as the pins don’t make a good solid contact with the card. This one looks nice though: http://shop.pimoroni.com/products/compact-microsd-adaptor
The reason I said it was interesting was that I’ve personally had better reliability using MicroSD with an adapter instead of full size SD in the Pi. It could just be total coincidence but I’ve always wondered if maybe the chipset was more geared up to MicroSD than full size as it was originally from a phone. Then again there’s probably no difference.
