Farnell are currently showing the future availability of the camera module at under 2000 units from…. the 27th May! Farnell have sent out an email to ‘Register your interest’ registrants saying the camera will be available to order from the 14th May. Here’s their announcement. Only one-per-customer, unsurprisingly.
The price they are currently showing is £16.56+VAT (which is just under the £20 mark).
From my experiments with the one sent to me by the Foundation, it’s well worth that kind of money!

That’s a really good price, no wonder they are limiting it to one per customer.
For what you get, this price is really great. Hopefully some bright spark will set-up a central place for camera scripts etc.
I’m just hoping I can work out a decent way to build it into BerryIO 🙂
I reckon you’ll end up with jQuery sliders for brightness/contrast and drop-down boxes for various options (or fancy dials like you might get on an SLR)
LOL, or maybe just a button to take a picture 😉
Or, that, yes 😉
Actually, I think if you can build in video streaming across the browser, that would do BerryIO a _lot_ of good. Not sure it’s possible yet, but it’d be a good enhancement.
I will definitely do video and stills capture which you can view and download in the browser. I’ll *try* to do streaming as well 🙂
Might be worth pointing out that price isn’t including VAT. The actual price is £19.88 (on Farnell anyway).
Done. Thank ya. 🙂
