Raspberry Pi has announced that this week they will pass the 250k sales mark for the Raspberry Pi Zero W. Considering that it was only launched 9 weeks ago, this is astounding. They have also announced that they have opened up their distribution channels to enable more people to get hold of units. Director of Product Management Mike Buffham expands:
These new distributors serve Australia and New Zealand, Italy, Malaysia, Japan, South Africa, Poland, Greece, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland. We are also further strengthening our network in the USA, Canada, and Germany, where demand continues to be very high.
You can check out the list of new distributors here at the bottom of the page.
How this announcement will affect availability remains to be seen. Raspberry Pi have repeatedly said that they can’t simply increase production, so presumably units to these new distributors will come out of the ‘fixed pot’ of production. (I don’t know anything to the contrary, however, but it is possible that more units are being produced!)
