In a recent Linux User magazine, they featured a great section all about the different types of robots out there for the Raspberry Pi. The editors decided to base the article around the Pi Wars challenges, which was very nice (and much appreciated!). Now, the review parts of the article are available online. It comes in two parts: Part one and Part two and covers the following robotics kits:

Hello,
I am interested creating an autonomous robot system. Using an onboard Barebone PC for OpenCV, Raspberry Pi 2 and Adafruit PWM for motor control.
I am looking for a large-ish Chassis with 4 Wheel drive
with encoders.
I am in the design stage anddo not want to send more than €1500,.. on the project.
Any tips?
Many thanks
A large-ish chassis with 4 wheel drive… Hmmmm.
You could take a look at https://www.piborg.org/diddyborg and then add your own encoders… It’s not the Adafruit PWM though, it’s something else.
There’s the Dagu Magician 4WD chassis – http://www.dawnrobotics.co.uk/dagu-magician-4wd-robot-chassis/. That’s large-ish.
Or you could go for tracked: http://www.dawnrobotics.co.uk/dagu-rover-5-robot-chassis-2-motors-and-2-encoders/
Alternatively, you could go for 4tronix’s Initio kit – http://4tronix.co.uk/store/index.php?rt=product/product&path=66&product_id=171
Hope that helps.
