Hi Michael
To make life easier for you please consider taking a leaf out of my book.
When changing server IPs I want to ensure that my site stays available on either IP address and in sync.
1) Backup your mysql databases and website and copy them to the new server along with your web server and mysql settings.
2) Configure mysql on the new server to allow external IP access (only temporarily) and start the mysql and web server running.
3) In the old server, configure the website to use the database on your new server.
4) When DNS propagation completes disable the mysql external IP access.
If you upload anything to your blog while this is in process, ensure that you sync it on both servers to prevent missing images etc.
While doing this procedure there may be a very slight downtime as you change the settings on the old server and backup the databases but as long as the new server is running mysql before you restart the web server on the old machine all will be fine.
I have done this several times over the years and although it may seem longwinded it can be done in a couple of minutes depending on the size of your databases.
Hope it helps you
Greg
