Toby Kurien has released a video (see above) and accompanying code for a Pygame-driven implementation of the famous Star Trek LCARS interface. It’s really top-notch work, with sound effects and everything. One of my personal holy grails, so I’ll be dipping into the code really soon! Philip Colligan has been CEO of the Raspberry Pi Foundation for the past few months, getting to know the lay of the land, understanding this crazy community of ours and settling himself into his new role. In December, the Foundation’s board approved a strategy document and Philip has now published it on his blog. He is inviting all interested parties to read and comment on it. It’s a comprehensive document. Like all strategies it’s full of ideas and general direction without going too much into the specifics of ‘how’, but that’s probably a good thing as it allows the Foundation’s team to contribute to the methods to be used. Creative Technologist and creator of the PiNet system (that enables groups of Pis to be controlled centrally) Andrew Mulholland is the latest Pi celeb to be interviewed by the Pi Podcast boys. The episode is available on the Pi Podcast website.
Jamie over at Initial State has posted a great new tutorial which uses an ultrasonic sensor with a GrovePi board to keep an eye on a stash of Girl Scout cookies. When an intruder is detected, the IS service is called and an SMS generated to a named recipient. Great little IoT project. Read more about it here.
