Aylesbury-based manufacturer Binary Distribution has created a case reminiscent of the 1980s. It has a built in keyboard (which is apparently not comfortable to use… a bit of a downer) but the aesthetics are very attractive.
The best thing for hobbyists is that it has a built-in GPIO breakout and 640-hole solderless breadboard making it highly practical and tinkerable (which I know isn’t a word).
Here’s a new project to easily turn a Raspberry Pi into a controller for motors and sensors using the LEGO Mindstorms platform.
You have to browse around their site a bit, and you do have to source your own circuit board (which may be the project’s downfall) but it looks like it could be a fun way to build robots.
On Saturday morning, Dave Akerman will be launching PIE5 – a model A Raspberry Pi hanging from a weather balloon. These are great events as you can follow them online. This balloon is planned to travel across Europe and take in Holland, Germany and Poland on a 24-hour trip. Recovery might not be possible this time! Golo is a fledgling language that runs on top of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The guys over at Golo have worked out how to get it working on a Raspberry Pi, primarily because it’s cooler than using a Cloud server when they’re doing demos!
Sometimes the Raspberry Pi just gets it wrong. In particular when it comes to display resolutions, this can be very inconvenient.
