Colin Riley (aka Domipheus) has taken a Pi and a PiTFT screen and created a wall-mounted home server with touchscreen. He’s done a lot of cutting and modification of the Pi and the screen and it’s really impressive how small he’s managed to get it and still have it operate properly. Take a look at his extensive build blog here or watch the video below.
Sonic Pi v2 for the Raspberry Pi is now out!
Dr Sam Aaron yesterday announced the official launch of version 2 of his brilliant music software Sonic Pi. I’ve played around with the beta version of the software before, and it’s a great update – you can now “live code” and change your music as it’s playing. This is together with a lot of other smaller enhancements and bug fixes. It’s well worth downloading the new version and you can find out how to do that here.
A Raspberry Pi inside an old NES
Here’s a nice project. I don’t have his/her name, but it’s a good hack of an old NES games console to put a Pi inside with RetroPie running on it. Take a look at the full details of the build here.
Soldering comes to the Cambridge Raspberry Jam again
This is just a bit of a shout-out to anyone who is thinking of possibly coming to the Cambridge Raspberry Jam on Saturday. Once again we’ll be holding a soldering workshop (weather permitting – well, if it’s not chucking it down with rain when we get there, we’ll get the tent up!) throughout the day, so if you want to learn how to solder, this is a great opportunity! You can find out more about CamJam on the Jam website and get tickets.
Last few days for Raspberry Pi Picademy applications
If you’re a teacher and you’d like some free Raspberry-flavoured CPD, there’s simply no alternative than to apply for the Picademy. Picademy is a brilliant two-day workshop run by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to kit you out with all the skills you need to use the Pi in the classroom. You can read more about Picademy here and apply for a place here. You’ve only got a few days left to apply for the Picademy running on 29th-30th September. Applications for the 27th-28th October will be open for a little while longer.
Temperature display with a Raspberry Pi and Nokia LCD
Bart Bania has taken a Pi, a Nokia 5110 LCD screen and a one-wire temperature sensor, mashed them together and created a nice little temperature sensor. You can see circuit diagrams and get access to the code by visiting his blog.
