Potton Pi & Pints – nice write-up

On Saturday, Tim and I hosted a Raspberry Jam Doughnut in Potton – Potton Pi & Pints – at our local, The Rising Sun. It was Tim’s idea and it turned out to be very successful. We had between 30-40 people throughout the day in the upstairs room of the pub. We’d brought along 6 full Pi Workstations from the CamJam stock and set them up on tables along the wall, then just waited for people to arrive. We’d not organised any talks but we’d encouraged people to bring their stuff with them to have a hack or show off. We had an assortment of projects and we even had some kids turn up to have a go at Minecraft! Here’s a write-up and photographs from Richard Morris who brought his camera along to record what we hope will be a fairly regular excuse to get together with fellow Pi enthusiasts.

Cambridge Raspberry Jam – booking now open

Tickets for the Cambridge Raspberry Jam (CamJam) on 10th May are now available. You can get your tickets by visiting this page on the CamJam website.

We’re mixing it up for this Jam and trying something a bit different.

In the main Lecture Theatre, we will be running Focus on Education – a series of presentations, talks and demos specifically aimed at educators, but which may well appeal to parents and enthusiasts as well. See here for the Focus on Education timetable.

Up on the mezzanine level we’ll be having our usual show-and-tell.

In the Foyer, we’ll be having appearances from some of our vendors.

In the Foyer and Meeting Room, we are running two streams of workshops. If you’d like to attend these, you must book your place(s), so please read on.

Outside in the Quad we will be holding an ongoing soldering workshop run by experts.

If you’ve never been to the CamJam before then why not come along this time and do stuff with Pis!

We’re the biggest regular Jam in the country (possibly the world)!

Introductory course to the #RaspberryPi in South Wales – several dates

The University of South Wales is running a FULLY FUNDED introductory course to Raspberry Pi on the following dates:

RasPiO Breakout Pro – a #RaspberryPi add-on board that protects your Pi

Alex Eames has done a great video in which he explains how the new RasPiO Breakout Pro protects the Pi. It has resistors for protecting the Pi from excessive amp draw and diodes to protect the Pi should you connect up an over-voltage input. It’s a great board the fits really nicely on your GPIO pins and breaks them out to multiple headers. It means you can play about with your Pi without risking the magic smoke escaping! If you’re just starting out with GPIO, you pretty much need one of these for protection.

Here’s the video:

Here’s a link to more information about the board and you can buy one from The Pi Hut or from Cyntech.
