Great #RaspberryPi websites – no. 7 – PiWeekly.net – @pi_weekly

This is number 7 on my list of Great Raspberry Pi Websites. These are sites where lots of high-value information for the Pi can be found.

piweekly.net

This time, the featured site is PiWeekly.net. PiWeekly, as it’s name suggests, is a weekly Raspberry Pi newsletter. It is edited and curated by Ben Nuttall (@ben_nuttall), who now works for the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Ryan Walmsley (@ryanteck) who founded Rastrack.co.uk and now runs his own company RyanTeck Ltd. The reason I’ve chosen PiWeekly as one of my “Great Sites” is that the newsletter they publish is of extremely high quality and contains great content, week after week. Currently (as of 10th January 2014), they have over 5,600 subscribers and deserve many more. So, I will say what I always say about Pi Weekly: If you haven’t subscribed yet, Why the heck not?!

You can view all the archived issues here and even submit stories to be considered by the editors here. If you’d like to know more about the editors, visit their About page. You can also follow the team on Twitter (@pi_weekly)

Arcade-in-a-Briefcase project with the #RaspberryPi

With thanks to Pi Weekly for spotting this one! If you haven’t subscribed yet, why the heck not?

Travis Reynolds has taken a 1980s briefcase he found in a goodwill shop and converted it into an arcade machine. The Raspberry Pi is at the heart of it and he added arcade joysticks and an HDMI converter board for an old flat screen.

Linux Format has some #RaspberryPi related goodness this month

This month’s Linux Format (February 2014) has got a great article this month in which Les Pounder reviews some add-on boards for the Pi. Covered are:

They’ve also got articles about using the PiFace to control relays and also using Scratch for the first time.

Next month, we’re promised a larger feature on “Mastering Raspberry Pi” (whatever that means, lol)

Linux Format is available in most good-sized newsagents and supermarkets. You can also visit their website for more info and subscribe.

#RaspberryPi Foundation start selling their own 8GB SD cards!

After a short delay, the Foundation has just announced that they’re now selling 8GB SD cards with NOOBS installed on their Swag store. And the best news is they only cost £4 + postage (which is £1 if you’re not buying anything else). Great news and great value. It is a class 4 SD card but is one of the better makes (Samsung) which means it’s better than many budget class 6 or class 10 cards. As evidenced by the picture, it’s actually a microSD card inside an adapter.
