Adding RF capabilities to the #RaspberryPi
Kalle Lofgren has distributed a series of RF receivers throughout his house to do some home automation. He has now set-up a Raspberry Pi as an RF control hub. There are extensive instructions on his blog on how to do this with an nRF24L01 RF breakout board. There are other pages on there to do with his set-up. Read more here
As an aside, there’s also a rather neat way of testing out SPI by connecting the MISO and MOSI pins and running a test script.
#RaspberryPi kit-in-a-box from Kano
London-based company Kano have launched their Level 1 product. Designed to make getting started with the Raspberry Pi easier, their kit contains:
- A Raspberry Pi Model B rev 2
- A Level 1 instruction booklet
- A mini wireless keyboard/trackpad with charger cable
- A 4GB card with Raspbian pre-installed (plus software bundles).
- An SB components crystal case.
- A power wall wart.
- HDMI cable
- RCA cable
- Ethernet cable
- Micro USB cable
The kits sell for $99 (yes, dollars… even though they’re based in London… Sigh…) It’s not a bad price considering what you get, although I’d like to see what’s in that instruction book!
Read more here. Their site is informative, although I find a lack of contact details a bit disturbing… I still with companies would put their postal address up-front and centre!
Panoramic photographs with the #RaspberryPi
Foundation forum member Gbaman has created an automated 360 degree panoramic photograph robot using LEGO. This is an excellent piece of work and really shows off the new camera module. Read more here or watch a video of it in action below:
Pimoroni launch case/mount for the #RaspberryPi camera
Pimoroni, makers of the excellent Pibow case, have just started to sell a case/mount for the Raspberry Pi camera module. It’s made out of acrylic and utilises the mounting holes on the camera to sandwich it between two layers. Of particular interest is the addition of a mount hole for camera tripods. For £3 plus postage, it really is a great little mount.
More pictures and ordering information on the Pimoroni site
Also available is a new top layer for the Pibow that allows the cable to pass through.
