Teacher Sway Grantham was one of the lucky ones who got a place on Picademy – a brand new 2-day course for teachers run by the folks at the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The Foundation has recently moved into a spacious new office that gives them a classroom and multiple working spaces, perfect for this kind of event. So far, amongst several other things, the 24 teachers have programmed with Python and controlled a camera module, and done some training with Minecraft. You can read a full write-up of Day One here. You can follow the live tweeting of Picademy here or see it below.
Review of the MEKIT #RaspberryPi Plate
The Average Man has got hold of a MEKIT Pi Plate from The Little British Robot Company. It’s a metal board that you can mount your Pi to and that allows you to connect it up to LEGO or anything else. Easiest to explain by looking at the photo above. You can read his complete review here. You can buy a Plate from the LBRC for £4.99 by going here.
Making time lapse videos with the #RaspberryPi camera and a Windows machine
The Average Man has done another one of his camera tutorials. This time he’s covered time lapse photography and using a Windows machine to stitch them together into a video.
Potton Pi & Pints – nice write-up
On Saturday, Tim and I hosted a Raspberry Jam Doughnut in Potton – Potton Pi & Pints – at our local, The Rising Sun. It was Tim’s idea and it turned out to be very successful. We had between 30-40 people throughout the day in the upstairs room of the pub. We’d brought along 6 full Pi Workstations from the CamJam stock and set them up on tables along the wall, then just waited for people to arrive. We’d not organised any talks but we’d encouraged people to bring their stuff with them to have a hack or show off. We had an assortment of projects and we even had some kids turn up to have a go at Minecraft! Here’s a write-up and photographs from Richard Morris who brought his camera along to record what we hope will be a fairly regular excuse to get together with fellow Pi enthusiasts.
Cambridge Raspberry Jam – booking now open
Tickets for the Cambridge Raspberry Jam (CamJam) on 10th May are now available. You can get your tickets by visiting this page on the CamJam website.
We’re mixing it up for this Jam and trying something a bit different.
In the main Lecture Theatre, we will be running Focus on Education – a series of presentations, talks and demos specifically aimed at educators, but which may well appeal to parents and enthusiasts as well. See here for the Focus on Education timetable.
Up on the mezzanine level we’ll be having our usual show-and-tell.
In the Foyer, we’ll be having appearances from some of our vendors.
In the Foyer and Meeting Room, we are running two streams of workshops. If you’d like to attend these, you must book your place(s), so please read on.
Outside in the Quad we will be holding an ongoing soldering workshop run by experts.
If you’ve never been to the CamJam before then why not come along this time and do stuff with Pis!
We’re the biggest regular Jam in the country (possibly the world)!
