TechCrunch Interview with Eben Upton of Raspberry Pi

TechCrunch’s John Biggs interviewed the Raspberry Pi Foundation’s Eben Upton on stage during TechCrunch Disrupt in London. During the interview, Eben shows off the new 7-inch wide VGA capacitive touch panel DSI display and discusses other topics such as the relative failure of the model A (only selling 100,000 compared to almost 4 million of the model B), the upcoming model A+ and their educational work such as Picademy. They also have a play with the PiTop, which is a current crowdfunding campaign for a Raspberry Pi-filled laptop. The original article on TechCrunch is here and you can see the interview below.

Raspberry Pi powered media player uses real cassettes!

Matt Brailsford has taken an old cassette player and stuffed it full of electronics with a Raspberry Pi at the core. The player reads NFC tags which are embedded inside the physical cassette tapes to choose Spotify playlists and there is a custom circuit board beneath the old, physical buttons that trigger commands on the Pi to pause, stop, play etc. You can see a video of the player in action below. Photo credit: Matt Brailsford

Push notifications to your phone with a Raspberry Pi

Mike Haldas has written a great tutorial which uses free (well, it’s ‘free to get started’, not sure if it’s continually free) online service Instapush to send push notifications to an Android/iOS app on your mobile phone. His example application (for which he has provided the Python code) is wired up to a door opening sensor. Read the tutorial here.

Cotswold Raspberry Jam – 22nd November

Andy Baker and Andrew Oakley are organising a Raspberry Jam in Cheltenham. They’re running the first one on 22nd November from 1-4pm at the HESA offices on the Promenade.
