Chad over at Manifold has blogged about their excellent bird feeder project, powered by a Raspberry Pi Model A. I’m not going to cover it too much – read the original article yourself as it’s a great, great project.

DesignSpark Mechanical 3D design tool coming soon
Just spotted this article on Hackaday.
DesignSpark is owned by RS Components, one of the main Raspberry Pi suppliers in the UK.
DesignSpark Mechanical is a 3D design tool that can be used for prototypes. You can even export into the 3D printer STL format.
It’s not available until 16th September but this looks like an interesting alternative to Google Sketchup. It integrates with the Allied Electronics components library which means that there are plenty of pre-made models you can import into your design. I’ve just taken a look at their site and it looks like there’s a Raspberry Pi model B model you can use.
Definitely worth a look when it’s released. It is available for Windows only but may work under “Wine” on Linux, no-one quite knows yet.
You can read more here and download it from the 16th. You can also view their promo video below:
PiCon – the #RaspberryPi configuration manager
Foundation member ‘avatar1337’ has written a Java-based configuration manager GUI. It enables you to change the boot options stored in /boot/config.txt in a user-friendly way.
It’s currently a work in progress but the developer is very open to fixing and enhancing the software.
Read more and download it here
NB: Make sure you download the latest version by reading avatar’s latest post.
Coder IDE for #RaspberryPi from Google Creative Labs
Google Creative Labs have created and released a new distro for the Raspberry Pi. It’s called ‘Coder’ and its sole purpose is to host a browser-based IDE to help you to learn and use HTML, CSS and Javascript to build web apps.
I’d like to see them put this as a package that can be installed, but I guess a new distro enables them to just release it and know it will work.
Visit the homepage of Coder here or view their promotional video below. RasPi.TV covered installation of the system here.
